Today, we looked at some of the different tools and resources available with Activstudio and the Promethean Activboard. These interactive boards are considered to be an integral component to a 21st century learning environment. One of the key aspects to a 21st century learning environment is student engagement - are the students actively engaged with the material they are learning? In reflecting on what you learned today and how it relates to 21st century learning, briefly post a response to the following questions (as a comment).
- Share one example of how you could use the activboard in your classroom as part of a “21st century learning experience.”
- Share something that you found during your exploration (a webpage, a tool, a resource in the library, a flipchart on promethean planet).
- What are you interested in learning more about?

There are many uses for this tool in the classroom, I esp. liked the camera tool and being able to move images to flip charts.

I like the money tool and being able to demonstrate using the board.

1. We would use the activboard for demonstrations and interactive learning games. It would be a great tool to model concepts in any subject.
2. We didn’t realize that you could copy over your PowerPoints into flip charts. We also discovered that pictures could be easily transposed from a website to a flip chart. The amount of tools will take days to learn, but will be helpful when we are fully able to understand and utilize each one.
3. We are interested in bringing the Promethean/Smart Board into our classrooms to effectively help us meet classroom objectives.

How to actually implement lessons on the board to the classroom without fumbling around!!

1. I do a unit in 8th grade on radial balance. The protractor tool along with the ability to drawing various shapes would be a wonderful tool for the students to be able to more readily see what I was doing when I was demonstrating how to create a radial balance. Using the actual tools is too small for all the students to see at once. I could also see a group project using the pen tools and various colors and font sizes to create a combined Art/Music lesson. The students could create while listening to music to see how different rythems and styles of music affect their “drawing”. Would be easy to use from class to class and put together in a ppt form to the actual music much like the continual motion type visual “screen saver” that happens when you play a CD on the computer.
2. I liked the window shade tool. It would be a nice tool to use for test taking……save a tree!
3. I would like more time to just play with it. You said that it was easier to create ppt presentations on the promethean board. Is it possible to create them on the prometean board and then save the presentation on your hard drive or to a disc for latter use?

1. There are so many uses for Activstudio in the classroom. Games could be created where Kindergarten students could practice writing words on the Promethian Board and by pressing the text recognition tool it could decipher their words to see if it was spelled correctly.
2. Because of my stubborn computer I was unable to find anything that wasn’t already showed to me. However, I really liked the simplicity of the tool bar that is located literally at your fingertips in Activstudio. The toolbar is a portal to endless options to create fantastic lessons.
3. I am interested in learning more about the flipcharts. I am very familiar with PowerPoint, but I feel that this program is more manageable and simple to use. I find all of this exciting and I hope to be able to utilize it soon in my classroom.

I could use some of the math and language arts ideas as a curriculum across the classroom idea.

The activboard could be used to involve students in Math Class, a very interesting way for students to respond in class. The ability that is provided using the Promethean Activstudio equipment to find needed tools for instruction. I would like to have more hands experience.

1. I could implement my lesson notes with digital photgraphs or short dvd clips.
2. I found some very useful map quizzes and excercises for geography lessons.
3. How to access History lessons all ready made for the promethean board

1. The activboard could be used for many language arts/English lessons, particularly for interactive literature analysis. For example, A Midsummer Night’s Dream activity was already available with the shared slides. Students could create setting boards and add specific characters to scenes. I’d like to have more time simply to play around with the extensive options available so that I’d feel more comfortable in front of a class when I first implement the technology.

1.& 2. I found the foreign language templates very interesting. That is something I would definitely like to use in the French classroom, and something that I think would involve the students more fully. In some ways, it’s less work for me and more fun for them!
3. I would like more time to play around with the Promethean Board. I certainly hope that I get a chance to have one in my classroom next year.

1. In 9th and 10th grade English I could use the activboard for note taking, organizing ideas for stories, poems etc. and for discussing and analyzing information of the literature. The flip charts make so much sense and create less work.
2. The graphic organizers seem to present ways to teach literature and the elements of literature.
3. I really am interested in seeing the shared ideas from other teachers.

I can use this to use the text power point and do review games before tests.

1. The activeboard is visually more appealing to the students and assists with engaging them in the academic process. I really enjoy using it in my classroom and integrating its many elements in my classroom. I used the activevote as a neat review tool to go over PSSA concepts and informally assess how the students are grasping the material. The students loved “casting their votes” and were physically engaged. The window shade is a great tool that I like to use when I use the two minute drill game with my students. That way, I know that the students are not completing the problems before their appropriate time.
2. Utilizing the graphs to display data analysis was a great tool that I found to be very informative. Data is presented in a visual manner and it helps students understand the mathematical concepts more efficiently. I enjoyed learning more about how to use the board in my classroom.
3. I am interested in learning how to utilize more of the math games to review with my students and to use these as differentiated instruction tactics in my classroom.

I have started to use the boards and am still getting used to the program. Promethian seems like a powerful tool. I just have to figure out ways to get the students involved.
I also use the activote system for review.
